Overview of Department of Pharmacology

The Department of Pharmacology was established in 2023 at Dr. Narayanrao Chate College of Pharmacy under Navayuvak Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Chapoli   for undergraduate studies. Department of our college offers curricula in two tracks at: Diploma in pharmacy and Undergraduate. The department provides a vibrant and dynamic environment for conducting high quality research and teaching. Students enrolled in undergraduate degree are taught by the department in all the  years of their study.  the department has CPCSEA  approved animal house  for study about research and conducting experiments for education purpose on small animals  like Wistar rats, albino mice, guinea pigs etc. required for preclinical experiments. The knowledge derive from pharmacology can be used in “Pharmacy” to achieve optimal therapeutic outcome through preparation of appropriate formulation and dispensing of medicine.  Pharmacology plays a critical role in advancing the understanding of how drugs work, improving therapeutic strategies, and ensuring drug safety. It combines aspects of both science and medicine to understand how drugs work, how they are used, and how they can be optimized for therapeutic purposes.

 Objective of Pharmacology in  Diploma in Pharmacy( D. Pharmacy)

• Basic Understanding of Pharmacology:

• Introduce students to fundamental pharmacological principles, including drug classifications, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics.
• Ensure students understand how drugs interact with the body and how the body affects drugs.

• Therapeutic Use of Drugs:

• Teach the therapeutic uses of common medications, focusing on essential drugs used in community and hospital settings.
• Emphasize the relationship between drug action and therapeutic outcomes.

• Safety and Efficacy:

• Instill knowledge about drug safety, including adverse drug reactions, contraindications, and precautions.
• Highlight the importance of understanding dose-response relationships and therapeutic windows.

• Practical Application:

• Develop practical skills in dispensing and counseling patients on proper drug use.
• Encourage students to understand prescription interpretation and medication management in pharmacy practice.

• Ethical and Legal Considerations:

• Introduce basic ethical and legal issues related to drug use and pharmacy practice, such as drug regulations and patient confidentiality.

Objective of Pharmacology in Degree of Pharmacy(B.Pharmacy)

• Advanced Pharmacological Knowledge:

  • Cover a broader range of drug classes and therapeutic areas, including emerging therapies and personalized medicine.
• Clinical Application and Decision-Making:
  • Train students in applying pharmacological knowledge to clinical situations, focusing on evidence-based decision-making.
  • Develop skills in clinical pharmacokinetics, including dose adjustment in special populations (e.g., pediatrics, geriatrics).
• Research and Innovation:
  • Encourage critical thinking and research skills in pharmacology, including the ability to interpret scientific literature and contribute to new drug development.
